Health and Fitness: How to Eat Healthy

Are you trying to become fit and more healthy by changing your diet? In my last blog post, I introduced the five different food groups and how much you should be eating each day. In this post, I will be guiding you on what to include and how to balance your diet properly in detail.

No matter how healthy your meals are, if you are eating a lot of chips, hot dogs, pizza, or fast food in general, you will not achieve your goal of eating healthy. Stop eating junk food like most fast foods and sugary drinks; this includes McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, etc. Instead of drinking soda, drink water. Fast foods are bad for your body because they are high in calories. Those extra, useless calories turn into unwanted fat, which is unhealthy for your body.

Instead of me going on forever talking about how bad junk food is for your body, let's get into the things that you're here for.

A healthy meal should include protein (found in the lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds group), fat (found in meats, oils, dairy products), carbohydrate (found in fruits and vegetables), vitamins (also found in fruits and vegetables), minerals (like calcium), and of course, water (found naturally in foods as well).

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it is the main fuel for a person. Studies show that students who eat breakfast do better in school than those who don't. A simple breakfast can be an English muffin with cheese. A nice breakfast can be bacon and eggs with orange juice or milk.

Related imageThe most basic lunch you can make is having only a main dish (starchy foods), a protein dish, a vegetable dish, and a dessert. Some examples can be rice, pasta, or mash potatoes - as the main dish, chicken or eggs - as the protein dish, broccoli or spinach - as the vegetable dish, and an apple or a banana - as the dessert. A sandwich can be a very good lunch. You can swap them with anything you want as long as it's in the category.

A perfectly balanced dinner consists of similar things as lunch, but you can spice up your dinner plate by making more interesting dishes. People are usually tired at the end of the day, so a good delicious dinner is important. Dinner provides the energy for maintaining your body while you sleep.

These are some tips I have for you guys: Eat at least 3 meals a day and no more than 4. Don't drink water during meals or after meals immediately because it can slow digestion. Drinking a glass of water before meals can not only protect the stomach walls, it also helps with digestion and prevents overeating. Remember not to eat until you feel too full. Avoid eating at night because the calories will stay and turn into unwanted fat.

I know it is hard to change your diet plan at first, but as long as you try, you will get rid of the bad habit and start eating healthy meals. I hope you found my post helpful. See you next time!
